Last night my wife binged on candy. She expected to have elevated readings this morning but instead found her sugars were low.
We have problems with her sugar crashing.
It is a balancing act.
Anybody with similar problems or anyone have any advice?

Is there a reason your Wife is ignoring what she should do in regards to her diabetes?
Has the dosage of her medication been checked? She may be getting too much.
What else did she eat? Was her key food part of her daily consumption before the binge?

How often does she test daily? How long has she been diagnosed? What medication does she take?

Your question needs to be answered by a qualified physican. If she crashes like that often she is not medicated the right way.

Depending on the individual it may be normal for a patient to be given a piece of fruit before bedtime to prevent glucose from dropping to low. My wife is the one with experience as a nurse and that is from her not me.

It sounds like a reactive low...basically, she eats the candy, her sugar goes too high, then it goes too low after that.

The problem is not that she's having candy now and then, it's "binging" on candy. Eating a piece once in a while with or right after your regular meal is much better than having a bunch of candy by itself.
