Anyone ever done residential or formal in-treatment program for overeating (even if it wasn't residential?)
I'd love to hear how it was.

I usually go to a spa for a week when I need a jump start on my 'diet' or "healthy eating plan."

But someone I know is doing a residential program for a month. And I'm wondering if I should do that.
It costs a lot more than a spa. And I'd be paying for it myself (I have insurance coverage, but HIPPA or no HIPPA there's no way I want my job/insurance company to have anything to do with this.)

Do you think a week would even help?
I just feel like I need to get away, and concentrate on getting my head and motivation together.

The spa week would cost -- give or take -- 2,200. (and I could drive there). It's be mostly a schedule of my own making, some weight loss oriented lectures, spa meals, exercise as I like, and any pampering treatments I want.

The overeating treatment week would be 3,000, PLUS air fare. This eating disorder recovery program has personal counseling, group and individual therapy, structured sessions...and is a program for overeaters, bulimics, anorexics who need treatment.

The one thing I do know is that the spa NOR the residential program -- are the real world.
If I can only go for a week, how long will I stay on course after getting back to my normal life?
I've lost weight before, even kept it off for years. But eventually slip and get lazy about my food choices.

I'm leaning toward the spa...because at least that's better than NO get away. (and perhaps that's all I need.)

I think that 2200 would be better spent on seeing a nutritionist, joining a gym, and possibly hiring a personal trainer to get you motivated and keep you on track. Obviously you could lose weight during your week away, but life isn't a vacation and it might be hard to translate what you learn during that week to things you can apply in your real life and stick to once you're home.

If you just want a vacation, go somewhere fun for your vacation.

I am with Hedgehog Mom, spend your money on a better vacation. Sign up for WW and go to the meetings. If you are motivated that is really all you need to keep you accountable. Plus its local and has no end date like a vacation weight loss-spa does. You could join a gym and hire a trainer to get a good exercise program going for yourself that would address your goals.
If you really want to go on a vacation go somewhere that has activities. Hiking, swimming, horseback riding, etc...

Complete waste of money.

Barring any mental obstacles that you may need counseling for (get a counselor), you SIMPLY HAVE TO WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT. You decide, do the research on how many calories you should be eating, and you do it. You don't need to dish out money to ANYONE.

It is best to "jump start" your health/diet by learning how to eat properly and controlling everything that you consume and keeping a written food journal.
