None of the food that cavemen eat exist anymore. Cows did not exist then, nor did domesticated pigs, or farm hens. These are ALL genetically mutated cross-breeds, created by man during the agricultural age. Tomatoes were very small berries, and bananas had seeds.
In addition, cavemen hunted and scavenged their food. They didn't drive to the supermarket and buy it already butchered and ready to toss on the grill. They also didn't have insulated houses, or cars, or plumbing, or hot water. They had no dentists or surgeons - if they were bit by an animal, they generally died. There were no ambulances in the Paleolithic age.
There's nothing innately "healthy" about the cave-man diet, evidenced by the fact that there was nothing innately healthy about cave-men. They lived *completely* different lives than civilized modern man lives, and their diets reflected their lifestyle.
But it is not half as much fun to believe that. Cave men were superior, we should try and emulate their diet! It seems Paleo is losing its luster. Soon it will be another fad diet in the heap.
One thing positive that did come out of it though is that it made people more aware of eating fresh, whole foods.
The executive summary is that the Paleo diet isn't necessarily a bad way to eat, but it needlessly restricts very healthy food groups on terrible reasoning.

Does anyone know what a true paleolithic diet was? Do we know for a fact that grains were not part of the true paleolithic diet?
Anyway, I know a guy who was somewhat overweight who went on a paleo diet and lost a lot of weight. He is now putting it all on again! He obviously did not change his eating lifestyle.
Paleo=anything you managed to catch while hunting. Or, find and eat, like berries, seeds, nuts.
It took more energy to hunt and fish than you would get from the calories of the actual food.

There is actually evidence suggesting that man had a very primitive form of grain processing as early as about 10,000 years ago.
Theres something of a negative connotation to the Paleo diet in it being just another fad diet, however if you take the word Paleo out of this list of recipes you end up with some darn good food that any one can live with.= Paleo Recipes - 325+ Free from Paleo Plan
