"But when he had the pizza delivered to his room on Tuesday, he violated the conditions of his stay and was promptly kicked out, he said."

There is the answer. His treatment came with certain conditions. He did not live up to the conditions. The hospital does not have the time to baby non-compliant patients.
I bet if the truth were known, he signed an agreement that specifically detailed what HE had to do, and the regimen he would be dealing with.
No, the hospital MAY NOT discuss his treatment with ANYBODY unless HE (the patient) specifically authorizes such disclosures.
IMO, the hospital absolutely did the right thing!

Did you ever suck the jelly out of a jelly doughnut and then fill it with chocolate swirl ice cream?

He was in the hospital because of his obesity, he violated the rules. What's the point of going there to loose weight in order to get gastric bypass if you are going to order pizza or other fast food. Sorry but the hospital did the right thing.

Yeah, that dude was wrong for ordering pizza, because if you want to lose weight, you should not eat pizza, and if you're in the hospital, because you could not lose weight, then pizza places should be the last place you call, unless you're about to lose your mind. I think I am going to definitely stop eating pizza so I will lose weight.

Eating a slice or two of pizza wouldn't keep that man from losing weight. As large as he is, he has to consume an enormous amount of calories to maintain his body weight.

It's more about him not being able to follow the treatment plan. He was trying to lose weight to have bariatric surgery. If you can't follow the doctor's orders when you have weight loss surgery, you're going to have all kinds of problems.
