I am a male in my late 30's and pretty active. I just heard of an acquaintance who was around the same age as me and dropped dead of a heart attack. I have naturally high cholesterol and tri-glycerides for which I take Omega 3's which have significantly lowered my levels. I have normal blood pressure. I dont think I eat too bad, I try to have fruits and veggies every day and avoid eating red meat and too much cheese, but was wondering what other people thought. Here is my food routine:

Monday - Thursday
Breakfast - 2 bowls of cereal, usually Honey bunches of oats, or cheerios - iced black tea to drink
Lunch - Grape jelly sandwich (no hfcs) a greek yogurt and 3 pickles. Seltzer to drink
Dinner - Usually a chicken or pork dish made in the slow cooker. Might eat beef every now and then. Side of rice and veggies and a salad with oil and vinegar dressing
Dessert - Apple, Pear or Orange. Sometimes Ice Cream

Friday
Breakfast - egg and cheese on a roll with peppers and onions, iced tea to drink
Lunch - Panera, or my routine jelly sandwich with greek yogurt and 3 pickles, iced tea or seltzer to drink
Dinner - 6 slices of Pizza and a few beers with a salad
Dessert - Apple, Pear or Orange. Sometimes Ice Cream (If I drink beer, I won't have ice cream)

Saturday
Breakfast - Bagel with thin layer of smart balance butter on top, toasted - coffee or iced tea
Lunch - Panera or jelly sandwich or left over pizza, seltzer to drink
Dinner - usually go out for dinner, might be Japanese, Korean, American, German, Polish, Mexican, etc (I live in a metropolitan area so the food choices are immense)
Dessert - Iced Coffee from D&D

Sunday
might be the same as above, usually have a big home cooked meal my wife likes cooking and entertaining

So, how bad or not bad of an eater do you think I am? What adjustments would you make if any? I know the ice cream, beer, and 6 slices of pizza are less than healthy, I don't really indulge in ice cream often. The beer is kept to once a week (3 or 4 light beers) I mean, you have to live a little, right? I really enjoy having my beer and don't want to eliminate that from my life, but on the other hand I don't want to drop dead while my kids are young and all. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think you're fine. Beyond that, it's going to depend more on if you have any goals beyond avoiding heart attacks (i.e. working out to build muscle, trying to lose a bit of weight, etc.)

When I was younger I was into weightlifting, I really can't do it anymore as a result of an injury so I try to maintain a high level of activity throughout the day. So, yeah my main goal is just to keep a healthy cardiovascular system.

Yes, you are a bad eater. Not a horrible eater, but lots of room for improvement.

I'm working on losing 50 lbs right now, and the only consistent problem I can see with your diet on a regular basis is the breakfast. (I am the last person to judge you on the pizza! LOL) Something with more fiber and/or protein would probably be best in the morning. In the week since I've started eating responsibly (I am a junk food lover and only just got serious about eating right), I have been eating an egg casserole (egg/cheese/bacon/shredded potato) done in the slow cooker in controlled portions, a fruit and Greek yogurt smoothie with protein powder, and oatmeal with honey, butter and cinnamon. Those breakfast items really fill me up.

The cereal and the bagel just aren't gonna power you through the morning.

You would be better to have a single beer over 3-4 nights than all 3-4 at one sitting. Moderate alcohol consumption is correlated with lower heart disease levels but needs to be spread out and not taken in all at once.

I don't see a lot of fiber or whole grains. Get rid of the white flour/rice products and replace them with whole grains.

You need more veggies and legumes... lots more.

I'd find a replacement for the jelly sandwich. Nutritionally, that just sounds like a bunch of nothing.

You would benefit from writing everything you eat down on a site like "My Fitness Pal" that way youd know the nutritional info of your daily diet. At a guess i think you are eating fairly well but there does seem to be room for improvement, Looks like you are eating too much and too much carbs and sugary stuff/high glycemic foods.
Hows your weight and blood sugar levels?

For me, I've eliminated all cereals and breads from my life. Good fats and proteins and quality WATER is your best bets... Today's info, now says get rid of grains and concentrate on good fats...our brains need fats...there is a lot of info on the cholesterol myth.

Some months ago, I had some Kashi left in a box so I ate it...fatigue set in something terrible. Then I read so many cereals can contain fungus/molds..that was the end for sure on box cereals.

I don't like the phrases good and bad when it comes to eating. You eat a whole lot of carbs for someone who has high triglycerides. High triglycerides are caused by eating a lot of simple carbs (cereal, grape jelly sandwich, rice, ice cream, bread/rolls, pizza, beer). If you really want to improve your eating habits try to decrease the amount of these foods that you are eating and replace the calories with more protein and fat.
