Hi, so I usually weigh myself every month. Weighed 164 in October, but for November weight 182.

I am running 4 to 5 days a week. 1- 3 mile run, 1 to 2 track workouts (3 Miles usually), 3 to 4 mile run, and then 1 to 2 6 to 8 mile runs a week. Plus at work 3 to 4 days a week walk about 3 to 5 miles a day.

I did start a new lifting program. Lifting 3 days a week for an hour or more. Usually do 1 day of chest/abs/biceps, 1 day shlulders/backs/abs, and 1 day of legs/then a random section of the body.

Depending on the week I do 3 to 4 days a week of 100 push ups. Then 2 days of pull ups and dips.

I don't eat much sweets outside of the holiday or drink much. Mostly eat for carbs potatoes and rice. Lots of chicken and veggies.

Think weight is mostly do to muscle gain?

Trying to keep myself above 169 and below 179.

Appreciate the insight.

Unless you are following a diet plan for gaining it could be fat. how mAny calories are you eating. Exercise is good but if calorie consumption is excessive the benefit is negated

About 2500 to 3000 calories a day. Burn a lot.

Well not burning enough might be more accurate if you are gaining weight. You only gain weight when you are eating more than you can burn. You could be gaining muscle, or muscle and fat. Only you can tell the difference, especially if you are male because the muscles will be there, as opposed to females where building noticeable muscles takes dedication and a lot of weight training.

How tall are you? You may be eating too much for your size. You are on the leaner side, so you need to eat less unless you are doing athlete level workouts. I burn a lot too, but can only burn so much. The calorie counter on the machines aren't very accurate either. I just don't think the gain is mostly muscle, not at that rate unless your program is a serious lifting program that's in conjunction with a gain diet. That would probably involve consuming more protein. Also, do you track to a T? You may be consuming 3500 calories. I used to think I was only eating 1400 until I tracked every single thing and then I realized that I was actually eating 1500 lol. Nowadays, I don't religiously track, so it doesn't really matter if it's 1400 or 1500, as long as I don't gain.

At least one of the scales was bad. You can't gain 18 lbs. in a month regardless of exercise or diet.

Even the steroid freaks never gained that much muscle in a month.

I can't make any of these numbers work. Even if I adjust by four pounds (assuming transitory weight dips and spikes) that's a fourteen-pound difference. In order for that to have happened the OP would need to have consumed nearly 50,000 more calories than burned in a month; that's an approximate 1,500 calorie daily surplus. Assuming a BMR of around 1,800, that would mean zero extra calories burned and a diet of approximately 3,300 calories.

When you factor in all of the exercise detailed, conservatively you would estimate a daily burn rate of at least 3,500 calories. So, in order to gain anywhere near fourteen pounds, the OP would need to be consuming at least 5,000 calories per day. There is no way someone could count calories and be off by as much as 2,000 calories per day.

Something is wrong with the numbers presented, or medical science has a new phenomenon to examine.

You can. It happened to me. It happened in little over a month. I didn't change my eating habits either, other than maybe 1-2 extra lattes a week (I pretty much only drink small ones, so call that 500 calories worst case). During that period my hormones and thyroid levels were completely off (I am hypothyroid). I used the same scale the whole time, and when I went to my annual checkup it registered a similar higher weight.

While we have an idea that calories in/calories out is a simple formula, it doesn't work that way in practice. There are a lot of variables that impact how much you burn and how much your body utilizes. I have more than enough experience that shows me that there are lots of other factors that impact it.
