I have to tell this story I just heard from a caller who called in about her "foot" falling and doctors have told her the other one could fall too...she is asking about PRP/Stem Cells.....the first thing the MD asks patients when they call in "what's your weight"... she was avoiding him but he finally got her to admit she is 5 1 and 152, but she thinks her weight is not an issue...he begged to differ...said to take off at least 20-30 lbs and that foot problem could correct itself a lot with weight loss, orthotics and maybe even some PRP treatments to tighten the ligaments.

She admitted she LOVES bread and can't live without it...give me a break. Dr. says Veggies, Protein and Water and their program in the office is called "Ideal Protein" but one can do it on their own....cut cut out the high intake of carbs.

I eliminated breads in my life about 10 yrs ago, don't bring any in my house. Break down now and again and have a personal pizza from whole foods but that's my little "fix"....but no breads...Beautiful romaine lettuce for my sandwich wraps.

And then she went on to say, but doctor, I'm 65 can I take off the weight? Again, talk about denial...

We are our own worst enemies and then want doctors to fix us.

I was just craving a juicy hamburger and made one fried in olive oil and on a bed of romaine and a nice dolop of ketchup...YUM...talk about good protein. I buy grass fed only and often organic meat.

Bread did not make her fat. Extra calories did. You like use your own personal experiences to sell your point as we all do. Here is mine. I eat bread all the time. Love sourdough. And pasta. I had pasta the other night, with sourdough dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I am not overweight. When I need to lose a few pounds I just eat less and up my exercise.
Low carb may work for her. It may not. It is not a 'one size fits all' approach, as none of them are. Try not to be so judgmental.

What ever works for you...carbs are making people fattttter...and this doctor preaches low carbs and protein, veggies, water...we get plenty of carbs in our veggies. And Yes I can only speak of my own life's experiences....i did my share of pasta and breads growing up and was dancing and exercising all over the place, but NOW I can't...and many cannot as they age as with age goes the joints.....and if one is fortunate enough to escape the scourge of arthritis, good for them.

I think it's safe to say the MAJOR population of our country is sedentary. I live on a beautiful street great for walking and some runners on the grassy divide but hardly ever people out walking....so with that, putting in one's mouth is important or we'll blow up...unless one has a metabolism that they keep thin.

You said you were 30 lbs overweight, and you lost while sick in the hospital.

So apparently not eating bread didn't work for you.

Agreed. Carbs do not make you fat, I eat carbs every day and I am at the low end of normal weight for my height.

IDK, different strokes, I guess. I don’t restrict carbs or grains and have never been overweight. The only thing I restrict is fat, because I have a genetic disorder that requires me to do so.

The majority of the obese in this country over eat junk food and fast food. These foods are filled with simple carbs and sugar, which are basically the same thing and lots of fat. They also drink sugar filled sodas and they don't move much.
If a healthy person eats carbs in all their forms they are not going to get fat. If they over eat those foods they will. However the diet of the average American is frightening.
I live in a place that values good foods and health. My husband and I just went out for a 4 mile walk and the bike/pedestrian path was packed with people doing the same. I am making portobello mushroom burgers tonight on sprouted whole wheat buns and garlic oven fries.

First of all, this post is about a woman who is 5 1 and 152 lbs with feet that are falling and giving her issues...the doctor was saying TAKE OFF WEIGHT first of all.

Mikala, it's not about the 30 lbs I lost in the rehabs!!!!

Maybe this interests some:

Could be too all the breads consumed (wheat products) is a major reason for the increase in diabetes.

Stopped reading the link you posted after this nugget...

"As you probably already know, wheat contains the protein gluten. Gluten ingestion is the cause of Celiac disease, a condition more commonly known as gluten intolerance. "

Wrong and wrong....

1.Gluten ingestion is NOT the cause of celiac disease....celiac disease is an INHERITED auto immune disorder

2. Celiac disease is NOT a condition "more commonly known as gluten intolerance"....they are 2 separate and distinct conditions

The author of this article clearly doesn't know what he is talking about and none of the information should be trusted
