Thanks, I know the difference but I was just relaying my experience. I have cut out gluten completely and cut way back on carbs from breads, pastas, sugars, etc and am getting my carbs (and less of them) from vegetables mostly.

Just be really careful about cutting out gluten unless you have celiac disease. It can be very harmful to do that. Good for you on your recent weight loss! I hope you're able to enjoy your upcoming vacation, despite that wrist injury! Oh, how awful that must be!

What is harmful about cutting out gluten? I'm not celiac but I've read enough about the gluten we consume. More and more are going to gluten free products and more and more foods are gluten free, must be something to it.

I am so frustrated about this wrist!!!!!! But it is bringing out the gallant, protective side of my husband and I'm about to go on vacation so I see lots of beachy drinks and shrimp and laying on the beach in my very near future! While being waited on. Nice!

I don't have celiac disease but apparently I'm just gluten sensitive. I haven't had any problem getting it out of my daily diet though and I don't know of any health risks involved in getting rid of it in a diet. Are there actual health risks? If so, I need to know about them!

There is "something to it", IF you have celiac disease. If you don't, it can be very harmful. Here are a couple of links. You can google more if you want.

Thanks!

i am sensitive to gluten, but I do eat other carbs and whole grains so I think I'm OK. Basically I have cut out wheat and barley but still eat oats, cornmeal, rice, etc.

Gluten shows up in a lot of non obviously wheat containing foods - like soy sauce.

It seems like the only "risk" of going GF is not getting enough fiber. That seems easy enough to remedy by eating other fiber rich foods.

All of those links reference only one observational study and this quote is the most important statement:

"The authors point out that this is an observational study, so no firm conclusions can be drawn about cause and effect, and they outline some limitations that could have introduced bias."
