Hello Fellow Dog Lovers,

I have been away from this forum for a while, but am very excited to come back (at least for a bit when I have time) to share a pic of my newest dog.

Please allow me to introduce "Otis"

He is about a year old, approx. 25#, and reportedly a schnauzer/yorkie mix, but he's definitely 100% love bug. I adopted him last Saturday from a rescue who saved him (along with 13 other dogs) from a local kill shelter just in time from being euthanized. He was heartworm positive and intact, but he must have been someone's pet at sometime as he is 99% house-trained and responds promptly to "come." Of course the rescue updated his shots, had him neutered, and treated for heartworms.

Otis fits in so nicely at our home; it's like he has lived here his whole life. He is always wagging his tail and looking to be with his family. He enjoys my other dogs, but especially my young, large female brindle mix (she's a rescue, too). I'll get pics of them playing later.

He's a little scruffy in the pic, despite having bathed him and brushed him daily. I have since sort of 'trimmed' his coat because it was starting to get matted. I didn't want to take him to a groomer because I am more of a do-it-your-selfer and like to know that he is handled well. Plus, I figured he has been through enough and I didn't want to leave him with a groomer.

I know there is a grooming thread (I have read through it), but if anyone has any specific grooming suggestions I would really appreciate it. I do have an electric razor, but think I need to work up to that with him, as he seems afraid of loud noises. I kind of like the shaggy look so I don't want to trim his coat too short. I've seen that some people hand-strip schnauzers ... is that something anyone would recommend?

Thanks so much.
c99

Thank you so much, everyone for your well wishes. I'll never understand why someone would gamble with his life by dumping him in an animal shelter. He's such a great, easy little dog.

Tonight he almost did a full fetch, dropping his toy after retrieving it and everything. I didn't know that was a Schnauzer thing. I haven't had a little dog since I was a teenager. This is going to be a fun, learning, and entertaining experience.

Thanks again for everyone's kind comments.
