It sounds as if she was abused by a man. I would just make sure that all of her interactions with hubby are positive. Even if he is the slightest bit insistent or impatient, she will sense it and it will set their r-ship back. Lots of love and lots of patience. And, yes, treats also help

Default Rescues

We have a collie that we rescued who came from a breeder, she was afraid of everything and everyone and it took A LOT OF TIME and love but she has adjusted. Exposure to new things will help a lot just do it in small doses.

My Sheltie whome I rescued from the pound 8 years ago does not like my boyfriend of 1.5 years. We go and see him on the weekends and then are back home during the week. He has the living room to roam but is scared anytime my boyfriend moves or comes close by. He tries to run and hide or get as far away as possible. My sheltie is completely diffrent and not the normal happy go lucky unless he is outside walking with me when we visit my boyfriend. Any suggestions on what to do?

Just get a more likeable hubby. Have your sheltie help pick him out.

Dogs have good memories. Perhaps your sheltie was abused by a male who in some way (to the sheltie) resembles the abuser. Either that or your boyfriend doesn't care for the dog and the dog is picking that up. After a year and a half, if your boyfriend hasn't made the effort to reassure your pet that he likes him and to win him over, the problem lies with the boyfriend. Trust your dog's instincts.

At first I thought I was reading about our situation. We adopted a Whippet, adorable as the day is long -- love him to pieces. We have had him now for 6 years and he still growls at my husband. He growls at the strangest moments and places. If my husband starts feeding him or takes him for walks, he will stop growling.

When people come to the house, I tell them to ignore him and this works the best. He begins slithering up to everyone within a short while and just loves all the attention. But I keep my eye on him at all times because his behavior change change in a nano second.

Another point, our Whippet was badly abused .... by men. He will always have a screw loose, but we love him dearly.
