It would depend on the law in your area. I would fight it with every ounce of my being! Number one, he would need to prove that it was one of your dogs that actualy bit him and number two, his dogs were off leash and created the incident. Seek legal advice but do not offer to pay a dime!

NO, NO, NO, absolutely not....don't pay a thing, if they don't like it, let THEM take you to court....for sure you'll win, no lawyer needed!!!

Well, he was in the wrong by not having his dogs leashed. But if it WAS your dog that bit him; you might be liable for that.

However, could he have gotten bit by one of his own dogs in the scuffle? That he caused? How does he know that it was your dog that bit him?

If he ends up suing you for his medical expenses, I think there's a likelihood that he'll say YOUR dog was not under control and bit him. If there are no witnesses, then it would just be a "He said, She Said" between him and your husband, and how would the court know who was telling the truth. It's unfortunate that people DO lie under oath - much too often.
Hopefully, you have a witness that his dogs were off leash.

Personally, I wouldn't offer the person a dime unless court ordered to do so. Get legal advice, if needed. You never know what sort of wacky laws may be in place in your state.
Example: In my state, if an idiot climbs over my fence and my dog bites the person...I'm liable. It can cost me twice as much if I have a sign stating "Beware of Dog." It is admitting guilt. Go figure.
Gotta love (not) a society that doesn't take responsibility for THEIR actions.

This has happened to me many times while walking my leashed male Akita. I wouldn't pay a dime. My dog has had a white poodle frilly looking dog in his mouth and flung him. The dumb little dog jumped my Akita - again. *sigh* My dog is ALWAYS leashed. If the owner wants to pursue it, get a lawyer. You were the one being a responsible dog owner.

Even though your dog was on a leash and his weren't, your dog bit a human. You should pay his medical expenses.

Your dog wasn't under control. Biting humans is a big no, no regardless of circumstances. You could lose your dog if it ends up in court.

Totally disagree. Her dog was under control - leashed - but was being attacked by two unleashed dogs. If the other owner tried to break up the fight in a foolish way, of course he/she was bitten.

OP, hopefully your municipality has a leash law. Regardless, I'd fight it tooth and nail. The owner did not have control of the unleashed dogs.

I would disagree with a ruling like this, but depending on state or local laws where you are it could happen. A lot can depend on what judge you get too. I would consult a lawyer to find out what your laws say, and if there's any chance your dog could be found viscious under the law, I would pay the costs if I could to keep it out of court.
