Why don't you just forget it. I don't think you would be the proper person to leave two Labrador Retrievers. Stick with your bird or fish or whatever because you seem to live the "glass half empty" theory of life.

You're not in the USA?

Sunset isn't the OP. But it's a good suggestion for him/her anyway.

So are you watching these dogs at your house instead of where they live? It would really be easier if they were in their own home. Them being at your place opens a whole new world of possible problems because they are in an unfamiliar place.

I will be a guest in their home for the three days.

---------------------
As far as licensed with rabies shots, I'll tell you two true stories in my county:

1. two dogs kept in an outdoor cage 24 hours a day, no collars. The County Health Dept. (Environmental Safety) came out and asked to see proof of the dog's rabies shots, since they had no collars or tags. No proof and they were given X number of days to get them the shots, or be fined.
2. about a year later a couple around the corner got new neighbors with a outside dog on a chain. There is a leash law so chains or cage. The lady called the same Environmental Health Dept. but the answer was different than the other time. #1 they came out and asked for proof of rabies shots. #2 they told the lady that they can not ask the pet owner if they have rabies shots, until after they have bitten someone. That is rather a dumb new rule. You should get rabies shots and have a rabies tag on your pet before it bites someone. Some of these county offices are lame.

So, the rules from county to county, and state to state, are different.
We are not required to license out pets inside the city limits.

I'm meeting the labradors tomorrow afternoon.

By the way, I try to plan head on anything, and consider anything unusual that could happen.
If it does, I'm already prepared and have already got a plan in place, for the unexpected.

My impression is that the entire back yard is fenced in, maybe a nice wood fence.
Higher income neighborhood by the lake.

I'm not sure if they are inside dogs. Labs seem like they might be too big to keep inside.
We'll see tomorrow.

I'll expect the dogs to approve or disapprove. The owner has already made her decision
1. They'll wag their tail with approval, as long as I leave my dog eating cat at home.
2. They'll growl or show their teeth of disapproval.
But, we once owned a dog that would smile and show his teeth, and I've seen other dogs smile that way.

Most labs do live indoors. As do most Great Danes.

Don't be too sure about either of those statements. Most of the ones I know that live in a high income neighborhood have no fences.

Also, my two dogs are approximately Lab size and are indoor dogs. In my opinion an outside dog is an unwanted dog....
