Could it be as you (Rabrtta) said, that it is due to kids being children of a prominent politician? However, it could be due to another reason.

Can't rule out the fact that a prosecutor did not have enough evidence to bring to trial. Have to understand our court systems, how flooded they are, and the fact that a DA has to wade through cases and will only bring to court those that are most likely to win. No use wasting taxpayer money on a case you will most likely lose.

And there might be some further investigation going on, or the DA may be waiting for after the civil suits are settled to see if any further evidence pops up that can be used. He is requesting it be dismissed without prejudice so if more evidence comes to light, the charges can be re-filed.

And don't base any conclusions on an article written in any newspaper. The facts are not always printed, even if they are available.

Curious, and just asking, what history does the prosecutor have in the four years he has been DA, in regard to politicians' kids?

This whole case is very rotten. And I doubt any monetary compensation is available to the pets owners since dogs are not considered valuable in legal sense.
It's just such a sad sad case.

From the very start of this case, both the Sheriff and the County Attorney were walking hand in hand through the investigation. The County Attorney's staff was overseeing every bit of the investigation to ensure they made a solid case. They had all the evidence, they had all the expert information, they had everything they needed. This was not a case brought to the Grand Jury in haste, it was well investigated at each and every step to include everything the accused were claiming as a defense.

So, how in gods name did a County Attorney who was overseeing the Grand Jury proceedings allow a Maricopa County Sheriff investigator to state 3 times in succession that there were no issues raised over the air conditioner? That was the main defense of the accused; that it wasn't their negligence but a dog who ate through the electrical cable that caused the air conditioner to go out. That was in all the newspapers, on all the television, that was what the owners claim when caught hiding the dead dogs, that was such common knowledge anyone off the street knew it was raised as an issue... YET, suddenly a lead prosecutor and lead investigator came down with amnesia at the exact same time in a grand jury proceeding to forget that one critical item?

They had all the evidence they needed and only one problem confronted them, they had the son and daughter in law of a sitting US Senator from their state and their own political party.

But all this aside, we still have 17 dead dogs and their owners who saw justice slip away due to the incompetence of the very people who stood in front of them and swore that no stone will be left upturned, no "get-out-of-jail-free" technicality will arise, and justice for those 17 dead dogs who suffered will be served.. unfortunately when it mattered most, they dropped the ball, again.

I will never board my dog. It's hard to trust anyone these days especially with a life.

Such a shame. When I worked at an animal hospital/boarding facility there was always a licensed vet tech and kennel attendant on staff for the overnight shift, animals were never left alone. It's so sad these people won't be held accountable for their negligence.
