Brought her home on Monday:

Adopted her from the Humane Society. She's only 9 weeks old.

She's a lab mixed with something.

Anyone know or can you tell at this age?

Can't wait to take her to work with me and to take her hiking and running. We're going to socialize her with people and other dogs ASAP. They have a huge dog park here for us to do so.

She definitely is a lab mix. It's hard to tell unless you know both parents. It's nice of you to adopt a puppy from the Humane Society. Have fun with here

You'll never know. The most important thing is, she's yours, and you did both you and her a great deed by adopting her from a shelter. Congratulations, and enjoy your new friend!

Aww how cute! Could be lab and collie, but some black labs have a little white on them. I know working at an animal shelter that some dogs came in that were likely purebred but because we didn't have papers and no history given, we had to say stuff like Lab mix....even if it was a pure lab. You can always do a genetics test. You can ask your veterinarian about that. That will tell you the mixes that are found in your dog's genes. SO it might say something like....75% labrador retriever, 10% border collie, 5% pitbull terrier, etc.... you get the idea. It might be worth it if you are curious enough.

Either way, what a cute puppy you have!!

We don't really care what she's mixed with but just figured we could give some sort of answer when it came up in conversation with other dog people.

Her brother was there too, a couple of families were looking at him. By the time we went back to pick her up after getting spayed, he was already gone.

That's the only option we decided on. We figured "why not adopt from the HS when there are so many dogs there that need a home?"

She's adorable and black labs are my mostest favorite kind of dog, although at my age I adopt the slower paced seniors who need a nice retirement home in the country for a few months or years.

You might want to hold off just a bit on taking her to the dog park until you know she's had all her booster vaccines, just in case there are some dogs there who might not be fully vaccinated and therefore carrying something that she could get. By all means take her out for walks and let her meet and greet people but avoid high concentrations of dogs for just a little while longer.

Wishing you all many wonderful, healthy, fun filled years together.

You can buy a DNA test on amazon, swab her cheek and send it in for answers on what she's mixed with. I think the cost is about $65. I thought it was a fun thing to do with both of my rescues.
