I grow up with big dogs (German Sheppards, Rottweilers, golden retrievers)
Last year I bought a Tiban Terrier puppy because I wanted a medium size dog that didn't shed and would be good with the kids. I can't believe how intelligent this dog is. I don't know if it's because this was the first dog I personally trained or is this just this kind of breed? Does anyone else have one...and if you do... does yours also seem very smart We love this dog sooooo much.
I don't know anything about them, but we are in the ,market for a new smaller dog, & after looking up Tebetan Terrier, I am in love! They are adorable. Seems like you see a lot of dogs that look similar in moves. Now I am searching for a TT puppy! I would love to see a pic of yours!
I got my Tibetan Terrier when I still lived in NY. The dog was bred in Missouri and was flown in to NY. My friend worked in Shake a Paw and hooked things up for me. These dogs don't come cheap, they usually run about 1,500 to 2,000 but are worth every penny. They're great with the kids and are super athletic, my dog could jump over a 4 foot fence with ease. I heard they are used in circus's for their talents. They're also hypoallergenic and don't shed, perfect for my clean freak wife. When we use to go to Central Park we use to see a lot of them. I can't believe it but there are four of these dogs in my development and we all have play dates for them. Never heard a bad word about them and they sure have a very loyal following
BigMike is telling the truth...we have a TT as well and they are amazingly smart and agile...ours is not fond of children but I think that is just his personality since I have heard most enjoy a child's company.
Well I wish you all the best with your Tibetan Terriers. I just received one for free through a co-worker who breeds them a lot. My tibetan terrier is just a puppy but he is so adorable and I look forward to raising him.
KSSTORM, avoid petstores and look for a good breeder, ive seen tibbies going for alot less than quoted, petstores charge astronomical prices. find yourself a good breeder (infact id be ahppy to help)
they are WONDERFULL "little" dogs ( i say little that way because compared to my breed there actually quite large lol) smart, sweet natured and still relitivly unpopular (meaning less likely to be spoilt by unscrupulous breeders and puppymills...they can still be found in stores (especially by special order) but you want to avoid that at all costs. Tibetan Terrier Club of America
is a GREAT place to start your search they have a breeder referal. they also have contacts with rescues too!
they are great little dogs...
i personally think all dogs are incredibly smart with the right motivation, but tibbies are just generally so sweet and easy (and cute :P)
