When people ask me why dogs are such a special species as opposed to say cows, I always say that it's because they are our evolutionary puzzle pieces. We evolved together, to fit each other. In some ways, that makes us more related to them than to chimps.
I loved their book written by the Coppingers. His theory challenges the old idea of dog domestication is very interesting, another important reason backing up that dogs are NOT wolves. This is important because we still have trainers and owners who may be applying the training methods that may be harming their dogs.
Go check out their book, I think it's call Dog. So far they have written only one. They are working on a book about their studies done on service dogs and the possible indirect harm people may be causing them (again, all theories but they do their homework). I can't wait until it comes out.
