I have a wolf malamute mix, he is 16 weeks old and is having a hard time getting it through his skull that outside is for potty. I really don't have any skills that I use, however I've been a dog owner all my life. Just need advise or helpful tips.
He is able to hold his bladder now all night which is great, however, during the day I'll put both he and my 4 year old dog out, for hours at a time mind you, and every time he'll come in and poop in his favorite spot.... what should I do?
Clean up the spot with paper towels (without cleaner) and put the paper towels where you want him to go.....Its not his fault, he doesn't know what you want.....When he goes in the house wisk him up (hopefully in the middle of going) and take him to the dirtied towels...When he goes there praise liberally!!

There is no such thing as a "stubborn" puppy, only puppies that haven't learned yet what to do. It is on you, the adult human, to teach him what you want him to do.
1) Take him out as soon as he is fed, and stay outside with him until he has thoroughly relieved himself, praise and treat when he properly eliminates. If he isn't pottying when you take him out, wait him out, you may need to walk/play with him- exercise gets the system moving. You can't just put him outside with your other dog and expect him to potty train himself; you need to be outside with him so that you can catch him pottying appropriately and then praising.
2) Crate him when you can't actively watch him. So, once he has pottied outside, bring him in, play and spend quality time with him, then into the crate. Rinse and repeat every 2-3 hours and after meals.
3) If he does potty inside, clean the area thoroughly with an enzymatic cleaner- I use Anti-Icky-Poo, but Nature's Miracle is another one.
4) Don't give him the opportunity to potty in the house: he should always either be outside with you, playing and spending quality time with you in house, eating, or crated. Alternately, you can tether him to you with a long leash so you can watch him inside and he can't wander away. He will learn quickly if you follow the above steps.

I did something similar with a 9-month-old puppy who still wasn't "getting it". I took the soiled newspapers and laid them on the ground in the backyard. Puppy looked at the newspapers, looked up at me and I could see the lightbulb go off in his head. "OH! You want me to go out HERE! Well, OK, then". The dog remained potty trained for the rest of his long life. Good thing, because by 9 months, I was at the end of my rope!
No, please, there is a LOT of really horrible information on the internet about wolf-dogs. Please don't refer anyone to random wolf-dog sites.
OP if you are looking for general training assistance for your wolf-mix, Nicole Wilde is a well-respected trainer who has extensive experience with wolf-dogs. She has a couple of books specifically on wolf mixes, Living with Wolfdogs, Wolfdogs, Facts, Myths, and More, and Wolfdogs A-Z: http://www.nicolewilde.com
