I know this will start a kerfuffle. I use Advantage Multi drops on my dog - prescription ran out got new.... and prices have JUMPED!!! Like $40 for 6 mos... I have to have him on some type of preventative per my lease and I live in front of a farm, and directly beside a large wooded area with Deer, Bunnies, raccoons and possums.... lots of critters. There are fleas and ticks around. I am in search of something more reasonably priced than $ 123.00 for 6 months treatments. He's a 14 pound Maltipoo mix and had issues before I got him with fleas irritating him to the point of baldness...
Ugh yeah right? the prices have really gotten out of hand for this stuff. I currently have a Soresto collar on my dog but it came with him from the shelter. I don't really like flea collars in general so will be looking for an alternative when it is expired.
My friend is using Nexgard and seems to like it. It is a chew, combined with heartworm treatment.
Try 1800petmeds.com. They have a 20% off special for first time customers.
I also use nexgard but have noticed the price going up on it as well . Dogs are expensive and the companies know it and they know we have to have it as well . I also spray my yard with professional stuff to keep down any nasties that might drop off the rabbits that like to be in my yard .
There is a Combo Flea & Heartworm pill you can get from the vet. When I got Katie 15 years ago she come from a Farm was Covered with Fleas Nothing worked! Till the vet put her on these pills...sorry don't remember the name.
It isn't at all that dogs/pets are expensive. It is that comanies know that most pet owners will pay through the nose to give their pet the best care. The world of pet care has really changed in the last 10 years. Now you can find grain free and specialty foods in dizzying variety where jsut a few years ago you could find a few brands mostly in small boutique shops that catered to wealtheir people. We are in an internet era also where pet owners will be flamed, shamed and guilted iguilted into going above and beyond financially. Of course this is all good for the wellbeing of the animals but I think there is a significant amount oif price gouging going on too.
Not to mention NO ONE WANTS fleas so of course people will pay to ensure that they can avoid a fea infestation. Having had to get rid of one such I am in the willing to pay camp but willing and able are not always the same thing.
Another vote for Nexguard but as noted not cheap, especially for 2 GSDs. I'm willing to pay whatever I need to so that there are no fleas on my dog or in my house.
[quote=MrRational;52275126]Be certain you're ordering the right dosage for a 14lb dog.
(My 86lb dog's dosage is more $$ than when he was a 30lb pup)
Including shipping tax etc... are you paying more than $10/month?
(that's about what I pay for ordering 6 at a time ... plus the heartgard)[/QUOTE
I double checked the size again thinking I'd chosen the wrong one - nope - still 123.99 - i was paying 79.00... that's $44 since December.... I'm bummed because it is a 1 drop thing - well 1 vial, fleas heartworms and other lice/worms... I have to find 2 somethings now... which will prolly cost the same together as the Advantage...
I also use the seresto collar. It's pricy for a flea collar, but it lasts 8 months and it's worked really well for my dog. My cat had a skin reaction to it, so she can't use it. I have to be extra cautious because my cat is super allergic to flea bites. Our neighbors have over 80 cats, many basically feral, that go through our yard to get to the fields and barns. The fleas are so bad
