Has anyone else rehomed a dog due to safety (dog to dog or dog to human)? I am a firm believer that they are part of the family but when you have tried everything for an extended amount of time, it was a last resort. He went to a Beagle rescue, so i know he is well taken care of, which makes me feel better about it.
In this type of a situation, I'm more likely to be angry at people who DON"T rehome rather than ones who do. My SIL has two dogs that have repeatedly tried to kill each other (and both are capable). A few times people have been injured trying to break them up. She refuses to get rid of the aggressor, who truly needs to be in a one dog home. I understand loving them, but in that case, she is literally going to love him to death, because one day, one dog is going to kill the other. It's not if, it's when. To me, the only answer is to rehome. I have no doubt that if safety was a factor, you did the right thing. Sometimes, it just has to happen.

Agree. And in the meantime, what kind of quality of life do these dogs have, really?

In our case it was one was constantly put up and away while the other was out and about (crate and rotate all day long). It caused stress to our older dog (oldest female, not involved but just a motherly dog in general). We could no longer go camping, on vacation, leave home for extended amount of time, go to dogpark, etc.
we are all adjusting better. Darn if i dont have trouble saying his name in the line up still (when i call all the dogs) but other than that, its going much better than I thought. The rescue posted him on their site and i laughed when they said he " has the typical beagle howl so doesnt do well in apartments".
