I have two dogs. The larger one is older, not old, and a very big shepard mix. He's very calm and under control. The younger looks like a small malinous shepard. Up until recently she's been fine. But since we lost my older dog, who was submissive to her, she's been acting on edge. She missed her appointment to be fixed due to lack of transportation (I don't drive, he didn't wake up). She's in heat again and I have to keep her and my male apart, but she's been growling at him.

I do want to get her fixed once she's done. But part of it is about dominance as well, and I doubt the fixing will fix that. It's like she's bipolar. She slips into these growly moods and then wants petting on a dime.

I have mood shifts too. I've tried a variety of stuff, but the best ever was magnesium. I take it as a supliment. I can feel shifts start with an itchy, impatient feeling. Most things work by effecting the result of the trigger. I take the magnesium daily and they just don't happen. Not at all. And I get this nice clear and calm and peaceful feeling which isn't like a sedative. I just pass them by.

I went looking for doggie versions and found a couple. The one everone list is called nupafeed. It is specifically for dogs. As its not cheap, I'm wondering if anyone has tried it or some other magnesium based calmer. I do know that magnesium works, and assume it should work as well as on people.

I've used other calming things not using magnesium but as they use a drug, a dosage for a fairly small dog doesn't do much.
