LOL. My cattledog sleeps on my bed, has for years. No fleas, no smell. Cattledogs are known for their lack of doggy smell and wash-and-wear coats that don't tend to collect dirt, but there is such a thing as a bath and brushing isn't there? I keep a microfiber pet throw over the comforter that sheds hair easily. Shake it off each morning. Easy! Definitely worth sharing a bed with her on cold nights.

Put the dog in a crate with a nice bed. Close the door. Problem solved.
I’m with you! I’ve always kept my dogs clean, and they are both non-shedding, but just looking at their bed is all the evidence I need they aren’t getting in mine. I have to wash their beds each week. There’s dirt and grit from their paws and little stains that I assume are drool or pee drips after coming in from outside, not to mention the occasional “cling-ons” I miss. I often notice how dirty my dog friend’s furniture and comforters are and I’m totally skeeved out. I’m just too clean to let a dog sleep in my bed; I don’t even get in my own bed without showering first. Mine sleep beside the bed in their own expensive luxury dog beds.

this exactly what I was thinking, however the dog should go to the vet to rule out seizures.

lol not all dogs shed, not all dogs smell and not all dogs have fleas.

This won't solve the problem if the dog is having seizures or alerting to the OP to something medical.

Another thought. Is there a bad barker very near where you live. Especially a nuisance barker that has just very recently stopped or reduced barking?

The way your dog is acting is the way some dogs react to those supersonic bark stoppers. The ones that hang on a fence. Neighbors of a nuisance barker will sometimes buy those to try to stop the noise. Sometimes the owner of the barker will try one of those. If there is one of those close to your house, it might be going off in the middle of the night and your dog is reacting to that.

If it is a bark stopper, it would have to be close to your house. They don't have long range.

No, the problem is not solved. If the dog or the OP have some sort of medical issue, that won't go away just because the dog is shut away.

You don't want your dog on your bed, so keep your own dog off the bed. You don't get to dictate how other people live and relate to their own dog.

My dogs never wake me in the night unless they're having an intestinal issue. If he's otherwise fine and his reaction is concern rather than alerting you to a disturbance, you both should probably get checked out by a medical professional.

Is it possible he hears some distant thunder or something? Or that you have sleep apnea?

If a vet visit and blood work don't turn up anything with your dog, you might want to get yourself checked.

Whenever my bad leg aches terribly my Dobe/Rott used to sniff the calf. One of my Catahoula/mixes does the same thing; he was not around when the Dobe/Rott was alive so it is not a habit he picked up from her.

I hope you get the issue resolved as something sure sounds off kilter
