Sweetener found in nut butters, sugarless gum can be deadly for dogs, FDA cautions.
The Food and Drug Administration issued a consumer update Tuesday warning pet parents about the dangers of xylitol, a sugar substitute found in human foods and some health products.
This isn't exactly new news. There have been threads about it here, I've seen posts about it on other dog forums some years ago, warnings to keep artificially-sweetened human candy/gum that might contain it away from pets. The past couple of vets I used warned me about using dental rinses or chews that contained xylitol. Maybe now that it has a formal FDA warning more folks will pay attention.
