Had chows for years and loved them; then decided that they (and other pure breds) would always find homes, so have since adopted rescues and have never regretted it.

We have a couple of truly sweet large mutts and a couple of terrier mixes who are wonderful (though one is a JRT and I have to admit that he's the joy of my life; I've never had a dog that loves life so much and makes me smile all the time!).

Movies always change the animals. Whats in the book looks nothing like the animal in the pic.

Default Poodles

I love all dogs, but I'm very partial to poodles--especially standards. Their intelligence makes them challenging companions, I never tire of their elegance and grace at rest and at play, and their sense of humor is endearing. And all of my dogs, past and present, have been rescues.

Mutts. I favor spaniel/cattle dog/border collie-type mutts, but every dog I get to know, I then like its mix in there. (See Under: the Beagle, and the late Otis, the Chow).

Japanese Chin - I'll try to post a picture. Rarely bark, loving and smart, easy hair to comb (don't need groomer even though they say you do).

When I was younger I had big dogs and loved them all. When I became a senior I wanted a small dog. I choose a mini schnauzer and I am glad I did. I never met a dog so intelligent, loving, or as devoted as this mini schnauzer. I have have had fourteen wonderful years with him and enough wonderful memories to write a book. My only regret is that their time is so short compared to ours.
Which is the best dog...it's the one sitting right in front of you.

Miniature Schnauzers hands down! They're smart, loyal, train easily, great with kids, don't shed, and, my personal favorite, make funny noises as if they're trying to talk. I've owned several different breeds since I was a child, but the mini schnauzer is my favorite for sure.

Siberian Huskies. Energetic and stubborn, but loving and loyal, smart dogs.
