I have a small dog Daschund/Peekapoo mix. I give him a bath 3 times a week but no matter what, he still has this odor on him. it's in his hair and i believe it's just something his body secretes into his hair/skin.

Someone told me about an anal gland that can be drained which can causes this kind of odor to secrete into the dogs hair or skin causing the odor. Has anyone ever heard of that before? If so, is is expensive to have done and most of all does it work?

Open to any other suggestions. This odor seems to linger in the house and since i temporarily moved in with my sister, i want to do all i can not to stink up her house.

You really shouldn't bathe a dog that often. It dries their skin out.

If you've never expressed the anal glands, ask your vet to do it and show you how. It only takes a second to do it at the veterinarians and it's not a big deal.

Cute dog!

Has he been checked out by a vet. It could be skin allergies, or even mange. I had a Golden Retriever years ago that had horrible body odor. Like with your dog, baths didn't work. It almost made it worse! A vet finally diagnosed it with allergies to grass!

As far as I know, it sounds like your pup (who is adorable, btw~) needs his anal glands expressed. Yes, I believe it does work, and is not a major deal to get done. My neighbors used to do it for their own pets, but I'd rather take my dog to the vet; they do it there for no charge. So, I don't think it should be a big expense at all.

Yep. It's a normal part of a vet visit... and it's kinda stinky so you may not want to do it!

A lot of things could casue ordor and that is too many baths for your fur-baby. Go to your vet to find out the cause. Anal glands usually don't have to be expressed very often but this does depend on the animal. It's certainly not something I would want to do at home and you could overdo it and cause injury to your dog. A skin condition could also be the cause. Also, some dogs sweat more and a combination of that and heavy fur could cause odor. Let your vet sort it out!

How are your dog's teeth? If he hasn't had a dental checkup lately perhaps his teeth are bad and when he grooms himself the mouth odor is being transferred to his coat. I have seen people think their dog's skin and fur smells only to find out that it's a dental issue. Often it is the back teeth which are bad, and these cannot easily be seen. To check them yourself, pull back the loose skin at the corner of his mouth and look at the very back of his mouth. If the teeth aren't white and clean, he needs a dental.
