They are great dogs. If we get another it will have African blood in them. Based on what I have seen the Congo blood is definitely more hardy and distinct from the American lines.
We have a basinji mix and she is definitely the love of my life. She is stubborn and difficult but I wouldn't change her. We crate trained her when she was a puppy by giving her a mix of peanut butter and fat free plain yogurt frozen in a kong. She is not a dog to get if you need a ton of reassurance and attention. She is more like a cat, sits with you on her own turns. I am dominant when we walk etc. As it can't be her way but I have embraced her independence and fun mischevious nature however she does not destroy things in our house. She is not a dog for everyone but she is an amazing dog for me!
I also have a basenji mix. She was a rescue and it has been a long hard road..I almost took her back..But I stuck with her..4 years later she is a very loving dog..But just starting to be comfortable and not so scared. She is extremely protective of our family though..So sometimes I have to lock her in the bedroom when we have company. I would not trade her for the world though.
