has anyone here ever owned a toy fox terrier. What is good and what is not about this breed. I heard they are real smart. I had one when I was real young, but do not recall too much about this breed.

These are so cute! I did an online test once and it told me my "perfect breed" was a toy fox terrier. I do know there are wirehaired and smoothhaireds. A neighborhood resident has a wire - it is really cute and very energetic. good luck!

i have a toy fox terrier named Jazzy and LOVE her to death! She is very tiny at only 4.5 lbs, but has a huge personality! She is very, very intelligent and was paper-trained in only 3 days. She has the personality of a big dog and thinks she 'guards' our home from strangers. She is very athletic, but fragile with very thin legs. The only bad thing is: she is NOT good with children. She is too small for them to play with and doesn't like them at all either. She has even tried to bite my cousin's child when he got too hyper for her liking. She is good with other dogs, as we have a chihuahua that she lives with and they get along very well together. She is very low maintenance on grooming...just a bath every once in a while and keep her nails trimmed. she has short smooth hair and does not shed much. My toy fox terrier is not very hyper, but some are. Check out meetup.com and see if there is a toy fox terrier group in your area. Maybe they will let you go to a meetup so you can meet the breed in person. Good luck you you!

I had a smoothed haired, she was terrific, smart, loving, protectors, did tricks, they don't like children too well, mine didn't. I would adopt this breed anytime.

We got one for my mom and she was really smart. She did really well with my nephews and my little girl. My only suggestion is to please take any toy fox terriers you are considering to your vet. My mom's puppy developed hydrocephalus of the brain at 11 weeks old and it absolutely devastated her. The puppy's fontanils never developed properly and they also believe it to have a liver problem. This was a congentil condition and could not be prevented. We had to put her down because medications were not working. Wish you the best of luck!

We had a rat terrier as a kid, and if this breed is anything like them, can you say big dog in a little body! Absolutely fearless! Fun dogs, caught vermin with ease very playful around kids (at least was around us)

I loved that dog. If we didn't now own Basenji's, I'd consider a rat terrier or equivalent.

Bulldogs are HUGE compared to a TFT. That's what's so scary. And puppies are VERY busy and in other dogs' faces. I know my guys do NOT like being around puppies. EVER. Especially my rescue chihuahua. In a few years, when your bulldog has calmed down, they MIGHT get along, but they might not.

This is something I tell people all the time: think about your older dog before you get a puppy. Many older dogs do NOT like puppies and are fearful of them.
