My dog scratches his ear and then licks his foot. If we scratch his ears (the insides) he wants to lick our finger. I had a Shih Tzo before that loved to do this. Does anyone elses dog do this?

Artie does this all the time. First, before he licks his foot, he looks at it. He's a funny dude.

Who knows what goes on in those canine minds! LOL!

I'm OK with him doing that, and just thankful that he's not one of those dogs who eats poo (his own or others').

Otto LOVES cat poo, only. Not his own or dog's? I don't get it.

See? How can anyone EVER understand such a thing?!?! HAHAHAHA!

Btw, I saw on another thread that you used to live in Calgary. I'm a born and bred Montreal girl, before I moved to Connecticut in 2005.

Quite a change in weather for you, from Calgary to Houston, huh?

ETA - I posted this on the wrong thread! Ha ha... will move it to the one about sh** tzus.

A word to the wise... if you do buy booties, and you allow your dog to try them on in the store... and he decides to EAT one of the booties... PetSmart will make you buy the set of 3 booties.

Let's just say booties weren't right for Tonka. LOL

It is a natural instinct to "clean". When we had the 2 dogs, they cleaned each others ears and eyes...Our cats do the same, and now the Dylan is a lone dog, the cats clean him as well. And yes, when he scratches his ears, he also will then clean his paw. Have actually never seen a dog who didn't do this.

Most dogs will clean up anything that has a scent to it as an inate trait not to be prowled upon. My one dog did it herself and another dog would do it to her as well.

The reason some dogs eat poo, dog or cat, is because it still smells like the food that was ingested.
