As I still feel great pain from losing my 8 year old last month, I am considering purchasing this GSD. He just turned 9 months old. Both ears are erect, however his right ear is slanted. Will it stay like this forever? I would appreciate any thoughts, opinions or advise. Thank you very much.

I would think it's permanent but why does it matter? He's a handsome boy.

I don't think that his ears will change either. It doesn't matter to me. People and dogs don't have perfectly symmetrical faces. Were you planning on showing this dog or breeding it? Obviously if the ear thing really bothers you, then find another dog to adopt.

I love the dark sables. I think his ear would be the last thing I would be concerned about. Sorry about your loss. I just lost my shepherd last week, he was five, and he only had one ear that stood.

Sorry for your loss.

I think the ear will stay that way if it is not fully erect by now; he is well past teething.

I am sure the ear is but one of many factors.

What a beautiful dog!! Unfortunately, since he is 9 months old, his ear will stay slanted. If someone would have worked with the ear when he was younger, they may have been able to get it to stand erect. Unless you want him for a show dog, I would not worry about it too much.

We had a Shiloh Shepherd that his one ear flopped. Of course, if he heard a noise that he was unfamiliar with that ear would stand!

We were lucky with our 2 white shepherds, as far as their ears went but our female was diagnosed at 5 months old for hip dysplasia. (but at 5 1/2 years old, she is still doing pretty good)

Lots of luck, if you decide to get him.

It is not impossible that the ear will stand erect, but not very likely. Do you know if his ears were taped to try to make them stand? To me, that looks like the effects of a bad tape job.
