great story!! that is great you gave her a home and adopted her! and she was so happy she could jump 4 ft fences! its like she was saying, hey i maybe 13, but i can sure give you a run for your money too lol . good luck with your pup!
People often fear that having older dogs means big vet bills.
In our case it did happen. Old Sheba notched up about five thousand dollars in vet bills. Those strange ailments that poorly bred Cockers are known for. But what a lady she was, we were blessed to have her share her life with us. We had her about three years and she died quietly at home.
On the other side is old Lucky, some mix of long hair Chihuahua and who knows what. 15 years old now, adopted at 10. Aside from a now and then bout with "slippy" knees, he's as hardy as a puppy.
If you have the heart an older dog makes a great friend.
My old newly adopted Nayla cost me money today. Not for the vet, but for the builder who built up a barrier on the low part of the fence where she escaped so easily. Meanwhile, she squeezed out the front door and was literally galloping through the neighborhood and woods and stone walls, me staggering after her in the snow. My heart stopped when I couldn't find her- did she go into the woods and get lost?
Then she apparently approached a neighbor, who caught her and brought her back. She was TIRED, really running through the landscape.
Then we went to the vet and got her microchipped. She's a wild girl! Not that I expect a wild senior, a quiet one is fine with me, but she's not slowed down much at all. A cheerful, pleasant dog, who looked at the new barrier, gave it a few tries, and then accepted the inevitable.

Wow! She's really keeping you on your toes, huh? Maybe in another life she was a contractor and knows what needs to be done to make money.
Well, even Nayla is a bit on the wild side, at least she's cheerful and pleasant. Two out of three ain't bad. Artie is wild, barky, and the lunging type -- and he's only 5. You got very lucky with Nayla.
Funny you should mention Artie. I also have an Artie- got him last year from the same pound where I got Nayla. The good people at West Warwick (RI) Animal Shelter spent months trying to approach him and work with him, and they really don't have the time or space to keep a 10-year-old that long. All he wants is loving and to be nearby.
At this moment, Nayla is climbing up the shredder and printer to see if there's a way out above the desk.
