LOL on the clonazepam! Thanks for all the encouragement. I have printed out the housebreaking post and will do that instead of what I have been doing, which was wishy washy this and that. She is totally crate trained which is helpful. She sleeps all night without incident in there, and she retreats to her crate when she wants. We have it set up in our room. When DH opens the crate in the morning, she immediately comes to my side of the bed. She's really attached to me which is cute. I very much love her, but am feeling overwhelmed. Once I feel confident about the housebreaking thing, I think I'll feel better. Thanks!
A well trained dog takes about 2 years of work. Then, you will have a nice trained, well behaved dog, who is perfect. And really, you have to train yourself too, like, don't give her chances to do bad things, and get into trouble.
Great advice. I was saddened today to see some unfamiliar people walking what used to be a neighbor's older Lab puppy. At a 4th of July party, the mom in the family was complaining about how much work the puppy was, and they weren't happy about the amount of the vet bills for routine care, either.
Anyway, the kids walking it said Ginger had been a puppy from one of their Lab's litters, and that the owners didn't want her anymore. So apparently they took her back. Glad the poor dog didn't end up in a shelter. I think the family was expecting too much too soon from such a young dog. I have another friend with an 8-month-old Lab puppy who is doing beautifully because they've taken the time to train him well.
Remember, dogs are like kids...the more tired they are...the better they are!
And letting your kids tire out the dog is even better!
