Coastal - I can't even imagine seeing one of those EEK! Fortunately, we live in a dry climate so nothing like that here. Last winter we did have some critters in the garage. No bait for me though. Had a bit of a scare last year when we think Macie might have found some. I guess this weekend I will be cleaning out cupboards (no food in lower ones) and pulling out stove etc....blech

Dogs sometimes get confused and associate a scary feeling to quite innocuous things. If Macie is food motivated, perhaps you could help her associate good things with the ball and the kitchen. Perhaps you could use some tasty treats to reward her for interacting with the ball in the kitchen. Incorporating some training activity with the ball might be a good way to engage her interest and help her overcome whatever spooked her.

Poltergeists? I think I might have some because one of my dogs has recently taken to standing in a room and simply barking every few seconds while apparently staring at nothing. This happens several times a day and if I call his name he will stop and it almost looks as though he was coming out of a trance. Like he had no idea he had been barking for 5 minutes. Weird

Definitely check for mice behind the fridge. I had one build a nest right next to the compressor motor which was warm. Eventually the collection of dog hair, mouse poop, dog hair, kibble, and dog hair caused the motor to overheat and burn out. Too old to be worth repairing.

PS: The cat brought in live mice and let them go in the house. Now she stays indoors for the most part.

Sometimes we don't see things that our pets see b/c we are standing up or leaning over. If you have not done this, lay down near your dog to see what he sees. Maybe it is something under an appliance that can only be seen from his height.

I was trying to pull out a pocket door the other day while conversing with my neighbor about how I was going to paint them after sanding them in place. The door was sticking and I was tugging it. The next thing we knew, a nasty WATER RAT came flying out from underneath the door!!!! Of course I started screaming to John to 'get that nasty thing!!!' while I ran and jumped on the couch! hahahaha
What is a water rat?
