Hi everyone!

My husband is looking at taking a job in this area. My son has quite a few food allergies and I was wondering if that will be tough to find his alternative foods in this area, as it appears the closest Whole Foods and Trader Joes are in the Twin City area. Are there many health food stores in Duluth or any closer than the twin cities?

What about eating out? Are there many places that are good to go, that are knowledgeable about ingredients and helping to find meals that could be eaten?

I appreciate any thoughts on that, as this is a great concern for me.

Rhonda

Whole Foods Coop, Duluth, MN. Your source for organic and natural foods in Northern Minesota. Duluth grocery store.

I'm not sure about restaurants as we don't have food allergies in my family. Hope someone else can help you with that question.

For restaurants it seems Duluth Grill has paid attention to some food allergies, such as to gluten.

You could also check out At Sarah's Table in Chester Bowl. They generally have a lot of good "alternative" breakfasts and organic ingredients. Here's their menu page: At Sarah's Table Menu

Whole Foods Co-op is terrific. Like a little grocery store. Good prices and if they don't have what I want, they will order it. I have had good luck with SuperOne and Mount Royal grocery stores as well.

Sara's Table and Duluth Grill are both great restaurants. Even though we only live a block away from Sara's Table, we often drive across town to Duluth Grill as I crave their fish tacos. Lots of menu choices that are listed as gluten free, or .... Lake Avenue Cafe and New Scenic Cafe are two other restaurants that serve great food and are willing to change up dishes as requested.

Good luck!

Exclamation Duluth Area Allergy Response

Dear Friend,

I suffer severe allergies- Anaphylaxis; The Duluth area is most often reluctant to respond in a positive manner.

There is the Whole Foods Co-op- fantastic!

Sammy's Pizza at all locations has always responded with great care. (Even hauled out the recipe and all ingredients!)

I have been "Refused service," at some establishments: One saying "Well, Ma'am, we'd really rather not even serve you.". This was in Esko, MN. If I was the owner, that Manager would be out of a job!

Federal Law requires all (Full) ingredient lists be available upon request. This seems to have escaped most businesses and employee training.

There are establishments who have employee's that really try to help, but cannot locate the information. I live those who really try- I will watch my husband dine and tip really well for their effort- not their fault!
