I've been looking into Cirrus and wondering what you locals think of its recent merger to become a Chinese company. In writing I understand all jobs will remain in Duluth. Do you think this will happen? Would it be a good time to get involved with the company or you think its best to avoid it?

I view it that the Chinese are buying Cirrus's technology. Once they get their plant(s) up and running in China, they can close this plant. JM2¢

I too would be surprised if they continued to build planes in the U.S.

On the other hand, given our experiences with their pet food, children's toys, drywall... they could continue to build planes here as there might be some reluctance to fly in a plane labeled, "Made in China." Who knows?

Cirrus,
We haven't heard much from them since they were bought out.

To quite.

This is what CEO Wouters said: ""We need to expand our product line -- bigger, smaller, faster airplanes, a much broader range, and very quickly. And we need more penetration in the top 10 foreign markets. And we must go forward quickly on both avenues".

That was the last thing heard from anyone in 2011. The last time I checked, Cirrus still has a manufacturing facility in Duluth.

With Kestrel Aircraft in Superior and the AAR aircraft repair facility in the old Northwest Airline facility, it could happen. Only time will tell with Cirrus. It would be nice to get more higher paying jobs in the area.

It appears that the Chinese ownership is making good on their terms. They have just invested a large sum of money in the Vision SF50 jet program, putting it on the fast track to completion.
