Hello! I'm an independent filmmaker from San Francisco and am considering shooting my next film in Duluth in February. I am aware of the winters and the coldness. I like that landscape. My big question is "Will there be anybody to help me?" Do people go outside and are they still social? I'm worried I'm going to have trouble finding local actors & crew willing to brave the elements (at least on an indie film budget) I'd be coming into town knowing no one and planned on being there for 2 weeks.

I basically want to know what everyday life is like at that time and if there are any tips I should know before embarking on this endeavour. Or should I just wait till Spring?

Thank you!!

You'll be fine. There are plenty of the theater type that would eat this up. just find the right place to post it.

Thanks for the replies. Both VisitDuluth & Chamber of Commerce never returned my similar questions. I'll try the PerfectDuluthDay.com.

Yes, people do all sorts of outdoor activities in winter from snowmobiling, to ice fishing, to skijoring, to winter camping, cross country and down hill skiing, and most neighborhoods have an outdoor ice rink for pick-up hockey and organized city leagues for kids.

People go outside purposefully-the overethusiastic running people blow me away. It'll be freezing and there they are jogging along on the snow covered sidewalk. They are the crazy ones.

Try this organization for some connections to local help.
