Have you ever owned a home? If not, how would you possibly be in a position to make a reasonable comparison of the risk and hassles between owning and renting?
Since I have seen rents and home prices in my area rise about 10 percent a year for about the past five years, renting to me appears very risky and owning not so much.
The great thing about property taxes is that it matches a tangible asset value a location and a tax basis. Now how we got assessing valuation and the usage of tax funds are much different discussions. But for local public services funding a property tax is highly effective and fair.

Increase Property Taxes to cover other areas of necessary public services. Even Health Care, take the onus off the employer and put it on property owners
Thread should have stopped here. However I would add to have a few such services as possible except where the monopoly cannot be avoided.
I could have written three pages to explain it fully... but, no. It isn't incorrect.
