Yeah the difference is years ago I could afford to CHOOSE what coverage I felt I needed...now we're being force to supplement everyone else so we can all have crappy coverage.
Obamacare is not really affordable, I agree.
In Canada/France/any first world country though you could afford healthcare, period. You would not be able to choose though, but if it is good enough there is no point.

I prefer free market to Socialism.

If anyone prefers Socialism they have quite a few countries to choose from...I wish they'd stop trying to ruin the last free country....

A typical ignorant, ill-informed statement! No they don't! Those countries do not let Americans immigrate at will and take jobs from THEIR citizens and benefit from their social welfare programs. They're a lot smarter than the USA is when it comes to immigration matters. For example, wanna emigrate to Australia and you're an American? Better bring a lot of cash (US$500K and up) to invest in Australia! They don't want any broke azzes who even need to take a job and work ... let alone anyone who needs any social welfare. So unlike the US immigration system which will take any useless idiot (Greencard Lottery for example) and throw them on full welfare, soup to nuts.

So who's more socialist in some matters? The USA or the supposedly "socialist" countries?

I guess I really struck a nerve since you had to resort to name calling!

So I guess over 6 million Americans living in other countries means it can't happen?

There are plenty of Expats so obviously there are places to go!

Or I'd be for states flexing their rights and ignoring the Federal programs and having their own ways to deal with issues. That's how it was until the Liberals decided to start infiltrating red state cities in order to influence them blue.

I guess they aren't happy living in the messes they make...they want to ruin it for everyone else too.

I prefer democracy to "free market" and "Socialism". Whatever people collectively decide - so be it.

Back to the topic - my take is this: stuff is cheap in US because truly important things - medicine, education etc. is, for whatever reason, are not very affordable; the tax system, subsidies, corruption in government and American conservative voters make economy to be structured this way.

True democracy is mob rule...you can wind up with situations like in some Middle Eastern countries where it's legal to gang rape women.

I prefer a Constitutionally Representative Republic to be exact...but with a free market economic system.

Funny, but before all of these Federal "help" programs there was only a fraction of people needing help...and there were many local, private and church charities to care for people on an individual basis....it was self monitoring and based on need not greed and a bit harder to "play" the system.

Health care in America is not affordable, no matter who pays for it or how they pay. The reform needs to be in the people's presumption of the level of health care they are entitled to. It is currently costing about a half a million dollars in health care to keep one American alive and well through his lifetime. Somebody has to pay for that, and you can call it Obamacare or anything else you want, it will still be a half a million dollars, and somebody will still have to pay.

Material is cheap; direct control of another person's time and attention is expensive, but negotiable. That explains things pretty well in one sentence.

So since you are well read on the Middle East which of them are a Democracy

That's right none of them.

In fact, most of them are puppets the CIA put in power, real democratic isn't it.

For someone, that claims AI, I will take Hal 2000 any day over you.

Hum, because it's all imported stuff, made by cheap Chinese prison labor?

I bet you don't see too many Chinese tourists buying that junk in Miami. Thats because they get theirs fresh off the assembly line.
