Use of the term "frankenfat" would be analogous to using the N-word in a discussion about race. It suggests a certain level of pre-existing bias. Ramen noodles (which are actually of Japanese origin, by the way) meanwhile derive the bulk of their fat calories from palm and soybean oils, neither of which is some heinous laboratory creation. Claims of high salt content in Ramen seasoning packets are at least accurate, though not necessarily material to most healthy people.
I liked ramens while in college. Nowadays, it is something I rarely eat as it is not healthy to eat regularly. I buy just a few individual packs on a rare occasion.
Ramen noodles aren't cheap when you compare what they cost to any other pasta or noodle ounce for ounce. Ramen probably costs almost twice as much as the other options.

Yeah, but they're pre-cooked (time is money) and don't need toppings. And the cost is still trivial if you buy at Walmart or a discount grocer ..... maybe $.25 per pack last time I checked (long ago!).
