A ton is suitable for development. Most of the east bay was wetlands and they made it work.

What is the cost of 'making it work' (clearly an assumption and oversimplication on your part) today?

I don't think any informed person thinks the US is "lucky"

What do you mean I have no idea, I better have some ideas after residing on this planet 79 yrs...we have a lot of very wealthy here in CA and a lot of people living way below the poverty level and us somewhere in the middle. I've read where a lot of lower lower income people live in apts with many in their apts or houses. They all have to pitch in to keep a roof over their heads.

You are making a common mistake. 'Poor'does not have to mean 'can't afford anything'.

Looks like you haven't been to the Bay Area. Even the middle class can't afford shelter of any kind unless they were born in 1970 or earlier.

For Pete's sake quit while you are ahead. I am out there probably 2 or 3 times per year. My friends in your neck of the woods w/ relatively modest income whine a lot less than you do, and they have mouths to feed.

Please review the comments of the person I replied to. She mentioned 'gadgets' not buying homes/assuming mortgage payments/taxes. Poor people are not necessarily excluded from owning an iPhone LOL.

I invest 3-4K a month and am still poor because I can't keep up with housing appreciation.

This is so incredibly silly.

My Air Force hometown in eastern North Carolina is full of American veterans and their Korean wives...and their Asian children. The church I went to as a child had a Korean mission/church just for Koreans. Of course, anyone and everyone was welcome at the "regular" church, but the Korean mission was ran by other Koreans, everything was spoken in Korean, etc. A large local farm brought in a huge number of Chinese families on Visas to work there when I was in high school, and I think this still goes on.

You must have never spent ANY time outside of California and must believe that everyone outside of California is a "bigot," or you must be a troll.

Sigh. I was born and raised in the south and have never met a person who played banjo. I'm pretty sure I've never actually SEEN anyone play banjo in person, although maybe I have at some point. Troll?

You aren't poor.
