A bit rambling and wordy for my liking.
First of all, there have been rich civilizations that have failed in the past, Rome for one. I don't think we're there yet.
I believe there are certain hot topic reasons why this is. I believe it involves no longer holding life as sacred. I'll just leave it right there.

Um, Rome was invaded and destroyed by Huns, Vandals and Goths.

True. But they were over long before that, which is why they could not defend themselves. Happened to the Greeks, Egyptians, Sumerians, Babylonians, on and on and on.
