This is the CRAZY Fed's bazooka. It also means that after this, the Fed is out of ammo, as Powell will have to cut rates to negative next and/or buy stocks outright for further monetary stimulus, something that would require the permission of Congress.

I guess QE part 5, has become the "fast and furious " of the financial world.

Good Luck!!!

I can't imagine that the Fed would be able to buy shares of stock in private US companies. That would mean that the government would have an ownership stake in the means of production and commerce. I thought that was called communism??

I own stock in companies, but don't control production. If the Fed, which isn't actually gov't, does support the stock market more directly, I suspect that it will not be as a controlling move.

How can they run out of ammo? They can just type in more money into the computer. If you can do a zirp this, zirp that, a QE1 through 5 then surely you can keep going.

It won't take the talking heads long to say that while ZIRP is good, what we really need is NIRP. That will be their magic answer to everything as the Fed expands their balance sheet into the $15-$20 trillion range by early 2021.
