when factoring for inflation black friday sales were off by like 5% this year. People are just always looking for a deal, but clearly budgets are getting tight.

And yet Amazon is going to be laying off a ton of people and not renewing a lot of warehouse leases.

Something does not add up.

They hired an additional 800,000 during the pandemic and they are letting go of 100,000.

I had fun today.

I went to the busy mall, waited in my car for a very long time to get a front-row parking spot. Then, I pulled out the newspaper and a couple magazines to read.

The fun part? I kept the car in "reverse" with the parking brake on, so the vehicle wouldn't move. Other vehicles would come and wait for me to back out of the parking space... but of course I never did.

(OK, the above is all in jest, lest anyone get their panties bunched up.)

Doesn't seem like there is much buzz on must have black Friday deals. What's the hot Christmas Present this year? Doesn't seem like there is any. Electronics have gotten so inexpensive, that there doesn't seem to be a thrill to go out early to Best Buy anymore.

There were some good deals on TVs, but if you are shopping for a premium TV, for instance, you're not going for the doorbuster special.

The doorbusters are generally for lower end stuff.

Honestly, Black Friday used to mean something, but nowadays it is trite. It is a parody of itself.

Black Friday isn't the same as it used to be but I don't think budgets are the reason. They no longer have $10 TVs that people literally killed each other for. And in the past, Black Friday was the only day of sales prior to Christmas. Today there are sales all season, and you can get things for the same price on December 17th as you could on Black Friday.
