Yes, the economy is not so good and unemployment is going up and the stock market and home prices keep going down, but I suspect that much of the blame for continued weakness is our own leaders. I am tired of President Obama telling us how bad things are.
There must be a way for him to acknowledge things are not so good but still tell us that things are going to improve soon and explain how our economic systems, workforce, infrastructure, systems and people will make things better soon.
I know most of my friends and family are cutting all spending outside of basic survival down to the bone and the result is we are not doing much to help the consumer based economy. The fear presented in the media and by our President has scared us to death and the result is a downward spiral until someone in a leadership role tells us that things are OK.
How can the media and our political leaders stop the downword spiral without lying to us?
So that whole subprime mess/all the foreclosures isn't really happening? Suggesting that the credit crisis is just "make believe" or just caused by the media negative talk is pretty naive don't you think? Have you looked into what's going on in the rest of the world? Obama and our own media has nothing to do with say, Ireland, England, Iceland, Spain etc..
No one said that things aren't bad, but the media WILL exaggerate in any way they see fit to get people to watch/read their product.
For example, last Wednesday one of the news programs lead with "Obama's first setback!" when all it was was him re-saying the oath of office. But having that "headline" in the promos certainly got people to turn in, right?

I agree. I work for a media source and headlines are expected to be attention grabbing. It seems there was a time when only the news was reported....but then everyone decided to play National Enquirer with ridiculous misleading eye catchers. Can't really blame anyone but the American public for that one. I guess we gravitate towards junky reporting.
As far as the original thread, I think at this time it still helps out the Democrats to prove what a mess everything is. Once they have been around for awhile, then unless it can specifically be blamed on the Republicans, then they will downplay what is going on. I'm not saying this as a political statement....it is simply the way the Washington game is played by both parties.
If anything he is UNDERSTATING the dangers ahead. This economy has been false for decades and the longer it takes to crash the more devastating it will be.

So, as long as a leader makes you feel good, you'll be pleased with them. "President, just make me feeeel good. Tell me something positive, please, I want to feel good!" How old are you?
I think he is preparing for the 2012 election. When the economy doesn't improve he can fall back on the "It's Bush's fault" or "well I told you it will take awhile".
Also - scare tactics helps him (any politician) get in his preferred legislation quickly without serious challenge and with well hidden earmarket and pork spending programs intact.

If things don't improve by 2012 at least somewhat Obama will go down as the next Jimmy Carter. People have given the Democrats a blank check but wont continue to do so if no results are seen.
