Im watching a program on PBS called frontline & they are discussing banks & how sneeky & dirty they are. They think of ways to boost revenue & screw people out of their money. Overdraft fees are quite high & some people get nailed everytime they use their debit card that has no money in it. Intrest rates are getting out of control & the obama admin says they will not cap intrest rate. They dont want to rock the boat with the banks. It looks like the obama admin is sleeping with the banks higher ups. I hope they are at least using protection. Is obama as weak as many say he is ?

Move your money to a Credit Union. There is no profit motive there. On the other side of the coin, they expect you to be a responsible member.

I would say he is weaker... his strength was only his imagination... but he had good intentions which paved the road to Hell that he created... He should of pushed first FINANCIAL reform... instead he was an idiot... the ONE reform that was needed he totally ignored and it was the beast that continues to destroy this country... we have CEOs paying back the "loans" without much harm... it would be nice if the government paid me 40 years of advance paychecks and I pay them off as I collect my paycheck? Who wins? I do because I can invest all that money now and make even more than waiting for paychecks with less value... that's what the government did for companies... Obama was an idiot but we have a tradition of electing idiots and corrupt politicians to be POTUS...

"people get nailed everytime they use their debit card that has no money on it" Hence, part of the problem in society -- people spending money they don't have. Used to be called "bouncing a check" and yes, the bank should have the right to charge a fee for that. Banks are for profit; they are not there to finance your inflated lifestyle. If you want to spend money you don't have, take out a loan and pay interest!

When you spend money you don't have, you set yourself up to be 'ripped off' by banks.

People like you would be a lot better off, IMHO, if you dropped the victim mentality and took some responsibility for managing your finances properly. Then you won't be paying overdraft fees, 30% interest on credit card debt that you shouldn't have, etc.

I never use my debit card. Im very responsable & keep track of my balance. I pay my credit card off each month to avoid the 14% intrest fee. My intrest fee not very long ago was 5.5%. I just do without alot of things & i live a simple life.

Great. What are you worried about then?

I guess you want to get more interest. So do I. The problem is, the federal reserve has made money very cheap right now by putting so much of it out there, and setting an effective 0% interest rate.

I'm not saying the banks are saints. They're sleazy in many ways. But nobody put a gun to people's heads and forced them to go deeply into debt. The banks surely should not have aided and abetted that.

There are no heroes in this whole mess. Just as the banks are far from heroes, 'consumers' are not heroes either, or even innocent victims. Consumers/borrowers collectively have just as much responsibility for this mess as the banks do. A lot of people made poor decisions based upon greed and an inability to control the desire for instant gratification (both for quick profits on the part of the banks, and for something they couldn't afford really on the part of the borrowers).

who needs banks?
cash cash cash
still works no matter how hard the us gov and irs dont want it to.
in other parts of the world most business is still conducted in mostly cash.
and with us banks going under by the boatload and with many more to come, it may be a good time to empty out all accounts and safety deposit boxes before the feds do.
i did that years ago and it is all offshore and in foreign currencies and gold bullion coins.
in gold we trust

Yes, my credit union refunds ATM fees and pays 4% interest on a checking account. They are also an absolute pleasure to deal with. I have no idea why anyone wouldn't use credit unions. Most of them are part of a "credit union network" so you can bank at all credit unions in the "network" which helps increase the availability of branches for things like cashing checks, etc. Or just keep minimal money in some larger bank if you need a branch to pay their ridiculous fees.
