My wife and I moved from Maryland to North Carolina last spring. Her boss laid her off just prior to our move.
We moved for my job and she has still not found one here in NC.
She received unemployment from the State of Maryland where she had her last job. She is not having taxes taken out of her checks.
She got her first or 2nd payment in Maryland, and all other money received was while living in NC.
When we do the state taxes, is her money taxed by Maryland who paid it, or NC where she lived?
In my uneducated opinion it would be paid to NC, my company i work for is based out of MA but I pay NC taxes where I live so it should be the same right?
This might be a good year to have taxes done by a professional accountant - the correct answer to your question would depend on both NC and MD state tax law.
federal tax should have been deducted, do not know of any state tax due on unemployment.
