An achievement gap separating black from white students has long been documented — a social divide extremely vexing to policy makers and the target of one blast of school reform after another.

But a new report focusing on black males suggests that the picture is even bleaker than generally known.

Based on personal experience, I'd believe this. When I lived in the city of Detroit, it was considered "White" to do well academically. I've witnessed black children calling other black children "Oreos". Taunting with "You're only black on the outside" because they did well in school. I don't know how typical this is but I didn't go out of my way to find this kind of behavior. I didn't have to. It was happening between the kids next door and the kids across the street and the parents of the kids doing the taunting did nothing to stop it. The parents of the kids being taunted moved.

That's not the reason why they called them "Oreos."

I'm a minority. Not black. But I can tell you the teachers and administration are the ones who create the minority hating minority culture. The academic culture enforces warped standards in that minorities are supposed to do bad. And they are awarded accordingly for doing bad. When students, such as myself, who tried to do better, were treated in a flippant and scornful manner by teachers, it not only hindered my education making it difficult to learn but the psychological damage was also permanent. Catch-22. Teachers fault. At least in my experiences. I had evil teachers growing up in school and in college. And I have a master's degree. They didn't stop me from learning. But I can see how they can throw their weight around to effectively stunt and stifle others who may not be as smart and ambitious as myself.

I'm a big advocate for online learning. It eliminates all of the social stratification and dirty politics.
