Just wondering if anyone would have any info/description on what a library aide would do?

I applied for a library aide position at a Colorado Springs elementary school, but there was no job description...so I've just been trying to find out some info online. I don't figure it's anything too complicated. I'm organized, computer literate, detail-oriented...etc.

Also, I know interviews can vary greatly....anything specific questions I should prepare for? I already have past teaching experience.

Thanks for any help!

Have your tried calling the school and asking the librarian? I think that would be your best bet.

Generally speaking, you will:
Check materials in and out
Assist patrons with finding information, books, periodicals, etc.
Straighten and clean shelves and make sure books are in proper order
Assist people who use the computers
Use the copier, fax, phone, library software
Help with children's programs
Give tours
Occasionally weed out old materials, be it newspapers, periodicals, books, etc.
Keep statistical information regarding usage of the library
Set up displays of new or interesting items
Create library cards or accounts for new patrons
And any other duties as prescribed.....

Thanks flyonpa, but school is not in session...and I just figured I would ask the principal if I really needed to (during the interview).

You're welcome. It's odd that a job description was not included, but I hope you enjoy should you get this position.

One interesting question would be to ask whether there will be a librarian, or if you'll be it. In our area, they fired librarians and hired library aides because they don't have to pay them much. So now the librarians are out of jobs and the library aides will be doing the work of two.

Library aides typically perform more admin type tasks like those in that list above. But I don't know if you would be weeding. I never let my assistants do that. Good luck.
