January 25, 2012 by UPI - United Press International, Inc.

Laura Dinehart, a professor in FIU’s College of Education, studied the handwriting skill levels of 1,000 second-grade students and found students with good penmanship tended to get better grades.

Those with higher handwriting scores averaged a B in school while those with lower scores averaged a C, she found.

Pretty misleading thread title. The study only looks at correlation, not causality.

This is just my totally NON-expert opinion as a mom. But I think that decent handwriting is important.

Kids need to be able to read their jotted down notes. Neat handwriting facilitates the expression of ideas - who wants to try to "interpret" a messy paper or project. Decent handwriting also helps kids to keep their thoughts organized and impacts the accuracy of answers on math problems.
