I have kids in the Fairfax County schools and, overall, I've been happy with their education. Math instruction seems very solid to me. I'm sure it helps that they practice and know all of their math facts.

Lots of parents are opting to send their kids to community college for the first couple of years because 4 year colleges have gotten so darned expensive. I do know that.
I would personally recommend against going to community college, I REALLY REALLY would.

A bright kid with good grades should be able to earn enough scholarships to at least go to a tier 3 university rather than having to settle for CC.

The community colleges often offer a good grounding in the courses that a university would require in the first two years. You do have to choose your classes carefully and make sure that they transfer, but there is no reason to think that you will not get a decent education at a good community college.

Ya but you miss out on the most important years of college socially.

Freshman and sophomore years people are forming social circles, you are out on your own, you are living your life with other college kids and you experiencing for the first time how it is like being away from home. Say all you want about wild parties and kids doing stupid stuff but you need that as a kid, that thrill of right after graduating high school, you are moving out on your own and living your life on your own. It is so important.

I wish I had fought harder to get away from here because living at home whole going to college is just insane really.

"When reviewing a file, the best indication of academic success at UGA is a student’s transfer GPA along with the number of classes completed. In calculating your GPA, we use all academic grades you have earned in transferable courses (including Ds, Fs and WFs) from every college you have attended. If a course is repeated, we will use both grades. As well, we only review transfer work with specific course titles, course numbers and credit hours.

Do you have an adviser who could go over your transcript, find out if you have any credits that will not transfer, and, if so, recalculate your GPA?

I think you have to face the possibility that your GPA is marginal. If you want to transfer, you are going to have to bring it up quickly and you need to be taking courses that you know will transfer.

UGA will also be looking for people with definite educational goals in mind, not just people who want to come to Athens for the social scene. It will be best if you are able to tell them what you want to be when you grow up! (Although I could not personally answer that question precisely until I was half way through graduate school. )

Keep in mind that those "C" courses will still figure in your GPA as it is calculated bu UGA. Before you do that, consider whether getting a higher grade in a different course might not be better.

Have you talked with an adviser at all?

Ok good, I'm glad you are at least going to a 4-year school with your 3.4/1950 coming out of high school. Do you mind telling me where it is you go?

So the education you get at a CC doesn't matter? Because you don't get to party hearty with your buds in the dorm?

If that's what you think your priorities are all screwed up.
