The NY Board of Regents will be dropping the requirements of potential teachers to take the 'Academic Literacy Skills' test. 41% of Black, 46% of Hispanic and 64% of white pass the test on the first try. The test is multiple choice.
A spokesperson stated 'having a white work force doesn't match our student body anymore'.
If they can't pass a literacy test, what kind of tests were they taking to graduate from college? They can't pass a literacy test but acceptable to teach children?
So, when your kid enters high school and still doesn't know the difference between- there, their and they're and ending statements with words like- to, from, with, is, for, of, without, before, are, at [my favorite], you'll know why.

As in, "That is the type of English up with which I shall not put."

It's true, though. Every department, agency, board, in NY having anything even remotely to do with teaching is under the control of the NYS United Teachers and the United Federation of Teachers. These unions dominate the legislature. The City of NY is their personal fiefdom.

And all they do is for the benefit of their members. Even if is at the expense of their pupils.

...because not only did the school fail them, so did their parents.

Unfortunately this will perpetuate stereotypes.

Your kid has two teachers. One of them would have passed the literacy test, and the other one wouldn't. Guess what else is different about them?

People notice these subtle things whether they admit it or not, and the Board of Regents isn't doing anyone any favors by dumbing down the qualifications for teachers.

That's a shame. That exam is pretty easy. The fact that so many people are failing on the first attempt is pretty sad---these are people that will be completing a program for their M.S.Ed.

A spokesperson subjected to a truth filter algorithm stated: "having a work force who, regardless of skin color (you know, that old fashioned ideal, now falling out of favor, that skin color is not important) meet a minimum literacy requirement, is not important anymore. What is more important is how things look"

Hence their fight against non-unionzed charter schools in NYC. Unfortunately Mayor DeBlasio has conflated "benefit of students" with that "benefit of their members" and is in bed with UFT & NYSUT. Students be damned.

What a shame. The liberals have totally ruined the education system. No wonder resourceful liberal elitists avoid sending their own kids to public schools.

More surprisingly, one third White kids cannot pass the simple test either. Underclass Whites, along with disadvantaged Blacks and Hispanics need help with their literacy, not a waiver.

Illiterate teachers, great. What next, blind airline pilots?

It seems as though for the left, no price is too great to pay for their beloved "diversity". Unfortunately in this case, it's the children who will suffer.
