I am interested in people's opinions regarding the appropriateness of "Pajama Day" in elementary school? Our school has them, often as rewards, quite frequently. Our elementary school goes up to grade 6, by the way. I think its a bit weird, myself. When dd was in preschool or kindergarten and even first grade, we went along with it. No big deal. But now she is in 4th grade and I believe one is coming up. I'm not real comfortable with it - I mean, what's the point??? Like I said, our school goes up to 6th grade, and some of these kids are already having their menses and lord knows what else...??? I am interested in other peoples take on this and would be interested in where you are from also; i.e., midwest, small town, big city, etc. I don't think its the biggest issue on the planet, but just the same, kids this age learn from everything - shouldn't modesty be encouraged, instead of just passing out:confused b.c. once they get to middle school???

Well, pajamas (as opposed to nightgowns, boxer shorts and other apparel that people sleep in) are pretty modest. Long drawstring pants and shirts, I don't see anything particularly wrong with it.

When my son was in public school they had pajama day, but he didn't participate. He sleeps in boxers and nothing esle. I am not going to go buy him some PJs appropriate for school and just to wear to school. That's just silly. I thought the whole idea was stupid, but it was optional so I didn't complain.

I'd just send the child in either modest pj's or else a tshirt or sweatshirt and sweatpants, depending on the weather. I assume that no children are coming in in anything risque, as that would probably have put an end to Pajama Day. The whole thing is kind of silly, I suppose, but not a big deal.

Pajamas are just clothes that you sleep in, what's the big deal? It's not like they're having bikini day or lingerie day.

I think pj day is a silly thing too, but there are many pjs out there that look like the clothing kids wear today. Fun for the little ones I suppose.

As far as menses or "anything else"-that all happens in clothing too. No different in some of the baggy wear or sweats.

Usually when our schools have pajama day the kids have to pay a dollar and the money is raised for something in particular.

who cares, really?? Have you seen some of the clothes that the kids are wearing nowadays? Pajamas probably cover up more than some clothes do....

Usually during "Red Ribbon Week" many schools have activities going on as in a spirit week. Each day there is usually a saying that goes with the 'dress" for the day, like hats of to drugs. Maybe, you did not get the flier with all the sayings on it for the week?

Last week, was Homecoming at high school and even my oldest ( a senior ) wore pajamas for spirit week. I am confused as to why many of you see it as a big deal? Even my high school had spirit week -( pj day included) way back then.

If you do not want your child to participate then so be it. You are the parent.

My daughter's daycare did it once. It was in conjunction with the K-8 school with which it was affiliated and was part of a pajama drive for needy children. No big deal. Of course, kids under 3 are just adorable in pajamas.

My kids MS (grades 6-8) did this once a year and there was criteria that made it perfectly acceptable, i.e. no lingerie. Most guys wore sweats if they participated at all and the girls did the same or wore cute long pant pajamas. Kind of like a real casual day.
